Background
South Asia, including Bangladesh, Nepal, and Pakistan among the top 10 vulnerable countries to climate change, has faced 1,210 meteorological, hydrological, and climatological disasters between 1990 and 2022. These events affected over 1.8 billion people across nine countries, causing over 420 thousand deaths and economic damages close to US$ 250 billion. Climate change threatens living conditions for up to 800 million people in a region already home to some of the world’s poorest populations. Effective meteorological and hydrological information is crucial for mitigating climate risks and enhancing productivity in climate-sensitive sectors.
